1885 Morgan Dollar
    A total of 27,349,700 Morgan Dollars were minted in 1885 between all four mints. Named after its designer George T. Morgan, only 930 proof mints of the 1885 Silver Dollar were struck at the Philadelphia mint. Aside from these, no other proofs were made in 1885.
 
    The Morgan Dollar weighs in at 26.73 grams and measures 38.1 millimeters in diameter. In 1885, the Philadelphia mint did not place a mark on the Silver Dollar. The other three mintmarks are located on the back of the coin below the bow. Each Morgan Dollar has a reeded edge.

    The Morgan Dollar is 90% silver and 10% copper. The current price of silver determines the value of this Silver Dollar as does the condition of the coin and its circulation. Using a silver price of $29.04, the 1885 Silver Dollar holds an approximate value of $29.04 to $37.42 for coins that have been in circulation. Philadelphia and New Orleans uncirculated mints are valued at approximately $36.52. The Carson City uncirculated mints are worth about $393.17, while the San Francisco coins are worth about $155.17 uncirculated.
